Get ready for a lot more towels in the cosplay scene, because guess what—we’re getting a new Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy show!
Deadline broke the news on Wednesday, reporting that Arthur Dent and crew will be heading to Hulu by way of ABC. Carlton Cuse (the producer of Lost and Netflix’s upcoming Locke & Key series) and Jason Fuchs (who wrote the Wonder Woman movie) will be co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers for the new series. According to Deadline, both are huge fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books.
This isn’t the first time Hitchhiker’s has made its way to the screen, of course. The 1981 BBC adaptation was based on Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s radio series, which predates the novels (and features a wonderfully klunky version of Marvin). A 2005 movie version starred Martin Freeman as Arthur, Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) as Ford Prefect, Zooey Deschanel as Trillian, Alan Rickman’s dulcet tones as Marvin, and Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox.
It’s not clear how closely Hulu’s version will follow the books, or when it’s going to come out, but keep an eye on this page and we’ll update it as soon as we know.
In the meantime, who would you cast as our new Arthur, Ford, Zaphod, Marvin, and Trillian?
